About NID Entrance Exam

 

National Institute of Design (NID) offers admissions to aspirants in Bachelor of Design (BDes), Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD) as well as Master of Design (MDes) programmes on the basis of their performance in NID Design Aptitude Test. In order to secure admission in design programmes offered at National Institute of Design (NID) aspirants need to take part in NID DAT (Prelims) and NID DAT (Mains). Only candidates who are shortlisted in NID DAT (Prelims) can appear for NID DAT (Mains).

LatestLast date for submission of preference for BDes/ GDPD DAT Mains Exam 2019 is April 9 (4:00 PM). All candidates can fill their preference for Mains exam on the official website of the exam by logging in to their accounts. 

NID entrance exam 2019 prelims result for BDes/ GDPD has been declared to March 20. Check NID DAT prelims result for BDes/ GDPD 

Final NID DAT (Prelims) answer key 2019 for BDes/ GDPD programmes has been released.

NID DAT (Prelims) result for MDes course has been postponed. Earlier, the result was scheduled to be out on February 15, 2019. However, now NID DAT Prelims result for MDes will be declared on February 20, 2019 (4:00 PM)

NID DAT (Prelims) is a written design aptitude test conducted by NID whereas NID DAT (Mains) comprises of a Studio Test and Interview round. Candidates are clear both these admission rounds are offered admission in design programmes offered at colleges accepting NID entrance exam scores for admission. Total number of seats on offer in BDes programmes at NID is 100 whereas MDes seats for admissions are 275 in number. 

The Test dates for NID entrance exam 2019 are now available. Candidates can check complete list of admission events including application dates, admit card, exam dates, as well as result and GD/PI dates. 

Apart from BDes and MDes programmes, candidates can also pursue Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD) at NID. Candidates were earlier informed that they could pursue GDPD course at NID Vijayawada and NID Kurukshetra campus only. Informing about the same the official website of NID informs that both these colleges are " independent autonomous institutes under the DIPP, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India and offer four-year long Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD)". However, now NID informs that new NID Campuses, that is, NID Bhopal and NID Jorhat will commence their academic session from 2019. Thus, candidates applying for GDPD programmes will be considered for admissions to NID, Bhopal and NID Jorhat based on their common merit rank. 

How To Prepare

NID Entrance Exam Pattern: In order to secure admissions in design programmes on offer at NID, aspirants need to clear two stages which are:

  • Stage 1: NID DAT (Prelims) - Pen & paper based written test 
  • Stage 2: NID DAT (Mains) - Studio Test and Personal Interview

NID DAT 2019

The Design Aptitude Test (DAT) conducted by NID is a three hour duration exam and the total weightage of the test is 100 marks. This is a pen and paper based test. The medium of instruction of NID DAT 2019 is English and the test paper comprises of both objective as well as subjective questions. NID DAT (Prelims)is conducted to test an aspirant on the below mentioned abilities:

  • Analysis
  • Creativity
  • Visualisation

 


NID Entrance Exam comprises of questions on topics like visual design, subjects of design, environmental sensitivity, thematic colour arrangement, memory drawing, proportions and perspective, drawing skills, animation and abstract symbolism, general mental ability, composition and communication skills as well as creative ability of an aspirant.

NID DAT 2019 is divided into two parts, that is, I and II. NID DAT Part I will consist of Multiple Choice Objective Type questions and its weightage is 70 marks. This part of the paper has one or more correct answers. On the other hand Part II of this exam has subjective type questions and the weightage of this section is 30 marks.

Marking System: The Multiple choice objective type questions marking scheme will vary from 0.5 marks to 4 marks each. There is no negative marking in NID DAT 2019.

NID Studio Test 2019

Studio Test for BDes Admissions: The studio test for NID admissions may comprise of questions which aspirants will have to solve in different formats like drawing/sketching, hands-on model making, group discussions, presentations, etc.

In NID Studio Test, aspirants will be evaluated out of a total of 100 marks. Duration of the test will be three hours. The medium of instruction of NID Studio Test is English. Candidates who are shortlisted in the Studio Test round will only be allowed to appear for the the personal interview round. 

Studio Test for MDes Admissions: This test for MDes admissions at NID will be held separately for each specialisation (that is, the course for which an aspirant has applied for admission). The studio test will comprise of different sections wherein questions of different formats (like hands on drawing/sketching, hands-on model making, group discussions, etc) will be asked. Duration of the test will be three hours.

NID Studio Test for MDes admissions will carry a total of 100 marks. The test paper will be in English language.

NID Personal Interview Round 2019

Personal Interview for BDes Admissions: This round will be held separately for each specialisation (right after the studio test is held) at the same centre. 
 

Personal Interview for MDes Admissions: The interview round for MDes admissions will be conducted separately for each discipline, immediately after the studio tests are held at the centre.

Exam Eligibility

NID offers Bachelor of Design (BDes) course at NID Ahmedabad as well asGraduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD) course at NID Vijayawada and NID Kurukshetra. The GDPD course is of four year duration. Candidates can view below NID Entrance Exam 2019 eligibility criteria for BDes & GDPD course admissions.

The eligibility criteria for NID entrance exam for BDes/GDPD course admissions states that candidates who have cleared or who will be appearing for their higher secondary (10+2) qualifying examination from any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce, etc.) from any recognised board such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or their equivalent in the year 2017-2019 can apply for the exam.

 

Qualifying exams that are accepted by National Institute of Design are as mentioned below:

  • Final examination of the 10+2 system under a central or state board recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU, Referwww.aiuweb.org).
  • Intermediate or two-year pre-university examination under a board or university recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU, Referwww.aiuweb.org).
  • Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
  • Senior secondary school examination under the National Institute of Open Schooling, with a minimum of five subjects.
  • Any public school, board or university examination completed in India or in any foreign country recognised as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU, Referwww.aiuweb.org).
  • H.S.C. vocational examination.
  • General Certificate Education (GCE) examination at the Advanced (A) level taken in London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka.
  • High School Certificate Examination from Cambridge University or an International Baccalaureate diploma from the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
  • AICTE approved three-year Full time Diploma after Class X offered by Board of Technical Education of any state in India or Union Territories as mentioned on http://www.aicte-india.org/statisticbote.php.
  • Candidates who have completed final examinations for class XII (or equivalent) outside India or from a board not specified above should produce a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) confirming that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class XII examination conducted in India.

NID Entrance Exam 2019 Age Limit

Category NID DAT 2019 Age Limit
Indian Nationals in General Category Upper age limit for candidates is 20 years as on 30 June 2019. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1999 are eligible to apply for admission.
Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (OBC-NCL, SC, ST) Upper age limit for candidates is 23 years as on 30 June 2019. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1996 are eligible to apply for admission.
Indian Nationals in PwD Reserved Category Upper age limit for candidates is 25 years as on 30 June 2019. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1994 are eligible to apply for admission.
Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category Upper age limit for candidates is 20 years as on 30 June 2019. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1999 are eligible to apply for admission.
Admit Card

NID DAT admit card 2019 has been released by officials of National Institute of Design (NID) on the official website of the entrance exam. Aspirants can download NID DAT 2019 admit card online from NID entrance exam’s official website. Candidates need to note that NID Entrance Exam admit card would only be issued to them if they have successfully completed and duly submitted NID application form.

NID admission process comprises of three rounds that aspirants need to clear – NID DAT, Studio Test and Interview round. Here, NID Design Aptitude Test is known as NID DAT Prelims and the Studio Test as well as the interview round is collectively referred to as NID DAT Mains exam. Thus, candidates are informed that separate admit cards would be issued to them for NID DAT (Prelims) and NID DAT (Mains) examinations.

NID DAT admit card 2019 is a mandatory document that aspirants need to carry to their NID entrance exam test centre. No candidate will be allowed to appear for NID DAT Prelims or NID DAT Mains exam if they are not carrying a valid NID hall ticket on the day of the examination.
