About NIFT Entrance Exam

National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) conducts NIFT entrance exam in order to shortlist aspirants for admission in design programmes offered by it. Each year, more than 20,000 students appear for NIFT exam.

NIFT entrance exam results 2019 for BDes and MDes courses have been declared on March 25. NIFT results for BFTech, MFTech and MFM courses were declared on March 6.

On the basis of NIFT exam, candidates can secure admission in courses such as  Bachelor of Design (BDes), Bachelor of Fashion Technology (BFTech), Master of Design (MDes), Master of Fashion Management (MFM) and Master of Fashion Technology (MFTech).

NIFT entrance exam pattern is three tiered in its format for BDes and MDes course admissions. As part of the NIFT entrance exam 2019 candidates need to first appear for Creative Ability Test (CAT) which is followed by a General Ability Test (GAT). The final admission round for BDes course is a Situation Test and that for MDes is GD/PI round. On the other hand, for BFTech course admissions candidates need to appear for GAT only whereas for MFTech and MFM programmes candidates need to appear for GAT and GD/PI admission round.

Considered to be a pioneer in fashion education, NIFT has its headquarters in New Delhi. Apart from this city, NIFT has domestic centres at Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kannur, Patna, Shillong, Raebareli and Srinagar.

How To Prepare

The NIFT Exam Pattern is such that candidates who want to secure admission at NIFT need to appear for two different pen-and-paper-based objective type tests which are called General Ability Test (GAT) and Creative Ability Test (CAT). 

However, candidates need to appear for both, NIFT CAT and NIFT GAT exam only for BDEs and MDes course admissions. Regarding the same, the official website of NIFT Entrance Exam  informs that: On the basis of result of written test GAT and CAT, BDes candidates will be called for second test called Situation Test. For BFTech, GAT will be the final test for selection. The candidates for MDes will take GAT and CAT. On the basis of result of GAT and CAT, in case of MDes, and GAT in case of MFTech and MFM, candidates will be called for Group Discussion/Personal Interview. The weightage given to each test in NIFT Entrance Exam is as follows:

NIFT Exam Pattern: Creative Ability Test (CAT)

NIFT CAT exam pattern is such that candidates are evaluated on the basis of their intuition skill, power of observation, innovation in development of a concept as well as design ability of the candidate. One of the most important aspects of NIFT CAT exam is that ut tests the creative as well as innovative use of colour and illustration skills of aspirants.

NIFT CAT is a paper-pencil based exam and it is of three hours duration.

NIFT Exam Pattern: General Ability Test (GAT)

Candidates seeking NIFT admissions in BDes and MDes programmes need to appear for GAT exam. This test comprises of the below mentioned sections:

  • Quantitative Ability
  • Communication Ability
  • English Comprehension
  • Analytical Ability
  • General Knowledge and Current Affairs

The duration of NIFT GAT is 120 minutes for BDes and MDes courses whereas it is of 180 minutes duration for BFTech, MFTech and MFM course admissions. While formulating the merit list for BDes and MDes course admissions 30% weighatge is allotted to GAT section of NIFT entrance exam.

Exam Eligibility

Candidates need to fulfill multiple NIFT Entrance Exam 2019 eligibility criteria if they want to secure admission in Bachelor of Design programmes offered at National Institute of Fashion Technology. NIFT offers BDes programme in the following specialisations:

  • Fashion Design
  • Leather Design
  • Accessory Design
  • Textile Design
  • Knitwear Design
  • Fashion Communication

Candidates are eligible to apply for admissions in BDes programmes in the above mentioned specialisations if they fulfill any of the below mentioned criterion:

  • Have completed their Class 12 level (in the 10+2 pattern of examination) from any recognised Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, like Central Board of Secondary Education / State Board New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi.
  • Have cleared the General Certificate Education (GCE) Exam (London/Cambridge/Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/ International Baccalaureate (IB).
  • Have studied at any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in Foreign countries which is recognised by the Association of Indian Universities to be equivalent to 10+2 system.
  • Possess a pass grade in their Senior Secondary School Examination which is conducted by the National Open School having atleast five subjects.
  • Possess a three or four year diploma which is recognised by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.

Age Limit for NIFT's Bachelors Programmes: Candidates will be considered eligible to apply for NIFT Entrance Test if they are 23 years of age or below as on October 1, 2018. However, candidates from the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribe/ Differently Abled Person (PHP) category will be given age relaxation of five years for admissions.

NIFT Entrance Exam 2019 Eligibility Criteria for NLEA to BDes

Candidate meet the eligibility criteria for NLEA for BDes course if they fulfill the below mentioned requirements:

  • Have cleared Secondary School Examination/10th

OR

  • Have cleared Senior Secondary Examination/12th recognised by AIU.

AND

  • Have cleared 3 or 4-years diploma recognized by AICTE/AIU/UGC or a State Board of Technical Education

AND

  • Have attended courses related to Fashion/Apparel/Textile and Accessories/Home Science/Handloom Technology/Products/Visual Communication/Graphic Design/Industrial Design/Interior Design/Multimedia Design/Apparel Technology/Leather.

OR

  • Students who have completed 2 year regular UG Diploma Programme at NIFT.

       

Apart from this, 15% of seats (that is, 5 seats in each course) at NIFT are reserved for foreign nationals/SAARC/NRIs. Such candidates will be offered admissions based on the below mentioned exams:

Call letters for NIFT Situation Test 2019 have been released on the official website of the institute. Candidates can download their NIFT situation test call letters by using any two details mentioned below:

NIFT Entrance exam admit card 2019 was released by National Institute of Fashion Technology on January 10, 2019. NIFT admit card was available online only and candidates could download their NIFT hall ticket from the official website of National Institute of Fashion Technology. Aspirants are informed that NIFT admit card would not be sent to them by any other means such as by post or by hand under any circumstance.

Candidates need to download the NIFT admit card from the official website of the design entrance exam as per the schedule mentioned by NIFT authorities. Aspirants can download NIFT entrance exam admit card by providing their details such as their six digit application number, date of birth and email ID.

How to Download NIFT Entrance Exam 2019 Admit Card

Step 1: Visit NIFT entrance exam official website.

Step 2: Click on NIFT Admit Card tab/link-  Direct link to download NIFT Admit Card 2019

Step 3: Enter any two details from – Application Number (6 digit), Date of Birth or Email ID.

Step 4: Click on 'Submit' button

Step 5: View and download NIFT admit card.

Step 6: Take a clear print of NIFT entrance exam 2019 admit card.

Candidates need to positively download and take a clear print of their NIFT admit card. Aspirants are informed that they will not be allowed to appear for NIFT Entrance Exam 2019 if they are not carrying a valid NIFT admit card to their allotted NIFT exam centre on the day of the design entrance examination.

NIFT Admit Card 2019 for Situation Test/GD/PI

Once aspirants clear the written entrance exam for NIFT admissions and make it to NIFT merit list then they need to appear for the Situation Test round in order to secure admission in BDes programme and for admission in master’s programmes they need to appear for Group Discussion/ Interview round.

Candidates who are shortlisted to appear in the Situation Test/ GD/ PI round need to then download another admit card for NIFT admissions. In order to download NIFT admit card for these admission rounds, candidates need to simply visit the official website of NIFT and enter details such as their – Application Number, Roll Number and Date of Birth. Once these details are submitted, the admit card opens on the screen and thereafter candidates need to take a clear print of their NIFT admit card and carry the same to their NIFT test centre.
