About TNTET

The Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) has released the recruitment notification for TNTET 2019 at trb.tn.nic.in. Registration window will become functional from March 15, the exam dates will be notified shortly. Apply now!

The state level exam is conducted to appoint skilled teachers for Primary and Upper Primary Level in the state of Tamil Nadu. TNTET consists of 2 papers viz. Paper 1 (classes I – V) and Paper 2 (classes VI-VIII). Both the papers will have 150 MCQs to be completed within 3 hours.

TNTET Exam Pattern

Given below are the highlights of the paper pattern of TNTET 2019.

TNTET Paper 2

This paper is conducted for classes 6 to 8. A brief of this paper is tabulated below:

Exam Syllabus

TNTET Syllabus for Paper I is based on the topics prescribed in the syllabus of TN SCERT for class 1 – 5. For Paper II, the syllabus will be of the Elementary stage. All the questions will be objective in nature, each carrying 1 mark with no provision of negative marking. Check TNTET Exam Pattern

There will be two papers of TNTET 2019 viz.

  • Paper I will be for a person who intends to be a teacher for classes I to V.
  • Paper II will be for a person who intends to be a teacher for classes VI to VIII. 
  • Candidate scoring 60% marks will be issued Pass Certificate by the Board. Check TNTET Results

Note: A person who intends to be a teacher for both levels (classes I to V and classes VI to VIII) will have to appear in both the papers, scheduled in June 2019. 

TNTET Syllabus for Primary Stage: Paper 1

TNTET 2019 Paper 1 is conducted for aspirants seeking employment in various central government-aided schools in the state of Tamil Nadu. 

The syllabus for the exam is as decided by the Board every year. Section wise distribution is tabulated below:

A brief Introduction of TNTET Paper I sections:

  • Child Development and Pedagogy will focus on Educational Psychology of Teaching and Learning, relevant to the age group 6 – 11 years.
  • The language I will focus on the proficiencies related to the Medium of Instruction. Candidate has to choose any one of the languages (Tamil/Telugu/Malayalam/Kannada/Urdu). For the recruitment process, candidates shall be considered for the vacancies in the concerned medium only.
  • Language II – ENGLISH will focus on the elements of language, communication and comprehension abilities.
  • Mathematics and Environmental Studies will focus on the concepts, problem solving abilities and pedagogical understanding of these subjects.

Note: The questions in the test Paper I will be based on the topics of the prescribed Syllabus of the State for Classes I – V but their difficulty level, as well as linkages, will be up to Secondary Stage Teaching.

TNTET Syllabus for Elementary Stage: Paper 2

Exam Duration: 3 hrs. Sections: 4 (all compulsory)

TNTET 2019 Paper 2 is conducted for individuals seeking employment in the Elementary classes of schools in TN. It will consist of 4 compulsory sections. They will have an option in the fourth section which aspirants should opt as per the subject they wish to teach. Section wise distribution is tabulated below:

A brief Introduction of TNTET Paper II sections:

TNTET Recommended Books (Paper 2)

Exam Eligibility

As per the eligibility standards defined by the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB), given below is a brief for the same:

Age Limit: their age should not be less than 18 years and should not exceed greater than 40 years. There will be age relaxation as per the Govt. rules and regulations as well.

Education Qualification: it will vary as per the paper opted viz.

For Paper 1:

  • B.Ed in Nursery Teacher Training of 2 years BTC in Urdu and BTC/ Diploma in Teacher Education / Diploma in Elementary Education from a Recognized Teacher Training Institute / DIET if you want to apply for Secondary Grade Teacher for classes I to V.
  • Candidates who are appearing for D.E.Ed/B.Ed degree is also eligible to apply.
  • Candidates who are visually impaired are not eligible to write Paper I.

For Paper 2:

  • B.A. /B.Sc. / B.Lit. degree with Tamil, English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, History and Geography as major subjects from a Recognized University under 10+2+3 Pattern and B.Ed from a Recognized University if you are applying for Graduate Teacher.
  • Candidates with B.Lit., (Tamil) degree should possess either B.Ed. or D.T.Ed. or TPT.
Admit Card

TNTET Hall Tickets will be issued by the Teachers Recruitment Board in May 2019. Candidate who has successfully registered for TNTET can download their admit cards, available at trb.tn.nic.in. Enter the issued registration number and password/ DOB in order to access the document.

Latest: As per the official notification, the registration window will become functional from March 15. Apply now!

The Board will release the exam dates for Paper I and Paper 2 shortly. The state level recruitment exam will be held in the Educational District Headquarters. Candidates should appear for the examination at their own expense.

How to Download TNTET Hall Ticket 2019?

The document can be downloaded via online mode only. No written communication will be sent to the candidate about the release of the document. Follow the steps mentioned below:

Step 1: Visit the official website i.e. trb.tn.nic.in.

Step 2: Navigate to ‘Download TET Admit Card’ on the bottom of the homepage.

Step 3: Click on ‘TNTET Admit Card’ link.

Step 4: Enter the issued Application number and Password/ DOB.

Step 5: Login to View and Download the document.

Step 6: Save and Print your TNTET Admit Card.

Important Points:

  • Candidate must not mutilate the document or change any entry made therein.
  • It is advised to preserve their admit cards in good condition for future reference.
  • No Admit Card shall be issued to the candidates whose applications are found to be incomplete for any reasons (including indistinct/ doubtful photographs/unsigned Applications) or who do not fulfill the eligibility criteria for the examination.
  • Issue of TNTET Admit Cards, however, shall not necessarily mean acceptance of eligibility which shall be further scrutinized at subsequent stages of admission process.

Admit Card of Tamil Nadu TET exam carries details such as:

  • Venue of Test: Centre number as well as the full address of the College or University allotted to candidate.
  • Subject and Subject Code: Candidate’s subject, as well as the subject code which was selected during the application, is also mentioned on the admit card/hall ticket.
  • Candidate’s name
  • Father’s name
  • Person with Disability: If applicable or not is mentioned
  • Date of Test: Date of the examination is mentioned in Date/Month/Year format.
  • Timings: Detailed timing schedule of the examination is mentioned on the admit card/hall ticket.
  • Application Number: Candidate’s application number is mentioned which is also required to log into the official website.

Documents Required with TNTET Hall Ticket

Candidates MUST bring the following documents on the day of examination at the Test Centre else they will be disqualified.

  • Print copy of their Admit Card
  • One passport size photograph (same as uploaded on the Online Application Form) should be taken for pasting on the specific space in the Attendance Sheet at Centre during the Examination. 
  •  Anyone of the authorized photo IDs (must be original and valid) – PAN card/ Driving License/ Voter ID/ Passport/ Aadhaar Card (With photograph)/ Aadhaar Enrolment No/ Ration Card.
  • PwD certificate issued by the Competent Authority, if claiming the relaxation under PwD category.

How to Check TNTET 2019 Result

The following steps help candidates to check their results in TNTET Exam:

Step 1: Visit the official website i.e. trb.tn.nic.in

Step 2: Click on ‘TNTET 2019’ link

Step 3: Select ‘TNTET 2019 Results’ tab. Candidates will be redirected to another page

Step 4: At the end of the page, click on the ‘Next’ link

Step 5: Click on ‘Click here for Individual Candidate Query’ tab.

Step 6: Enter your issued TNTET Roll Number

Step 7: Next, check your results, available in the form of scores. Download and take the printout of result for future reference.


TNTET Answer Keys

The Board will release tentative keys after the completion of TNTET Exam. The keys will be released separately for Paper I and Paper II. With there help, candidates can get an estimate their scores in the recruitment exam.

Steps to Download TNTET 2019 Answer Key:

Step 1: Visit the official website of TNTET i.e. www.trb.tn.nic.in.

Step 2: On the homepage, click on ‘TNTET Examination Result and Answer Keys’ link

Step 3: Click on ‘Tentative Key Answers’ tab.

Step 4: Save and check the answer keys.

Step 5: In case, you have any objections related to the keys, there is a provision to raise a challenge against the same.

About TNTET Answer Keys Objections/ Challenge

Candidates having objections on tentative key answers can raise them along with supporting materials and communicate the same to TRB within 5 days from date of release of the tentative key.

  • Acceptable Supporting Material: Only established books/text books can be provided as evidence.
  • Any objections and materials produced beyond the stipulated time will not be entertained.
  • On consideration of such objections, final key answers would be published by TRB and the same will be the final answer key.
  • No independent orders either accepting or rejecting the objections of the candidates will be passed. Only a final answer key will be published.
  • Constitution of experts to consider the objections cannot be questioned by the candidates.

TNTET 2019 Merit List

  • On the basis of candidate’s score in TNTET, merit list will be prepared.
  • They will be ranked on the merit list according to their scores.
  • Merit is released online on the official website.
  • Merit list will also be published category wise.
  • According to the candidates rank in the merit list, they will be called for certificate verification and then for an interview.

TNTET 2019 Certificate of Eligibility

  • Candidates qualifying the TNTET by scoring the marks above the prescribed marks by TRB, Tamil Nadu will be issued a certificate of Eligibility.
  • This certificate declares that the candidate has qualified the exam.
  • Also, this certificate does not ensure the appointment of any candidate.
  • The validity of this certificate is 7 years. Candidates if lose or damage this certificate then they can apply for the duplicate by paying fees.
  • For Paper II: Eligible person who secures 60% or more in the TET Paper II examination will be considered to have passed TET Paper II. This will be the qualifying marks for the candidates of all the categories. However, relaxation of 5% marks has been provided by the government for BC, BC(M), MBC/DNC, SC, SC(A), ST and PWD candidates. Check TNTET Syllabus
  • TET qualification is one of the eligibility conditions for appointment. The mere holding of a TET certificate does not confer any right to appointment.

TNTET 2019 Cut off

Cut off marks are the minimum marks that a candidate needs to score in order to participate in the proceeding rounds. The qualifying marks are released after the declaration of results. As compared to last year, the cut for TNTET 2019 is expected to go high.

Cut off marks will be decided on the basis of various following factors:

  • Total number of candidates appearing for the exam
  • Difficulty level of the paper
  • Number of Vacancies
  • Reservation Norms
